Elodie Arbogast

It's FanArt Wednesday again! This week’s chosen artist is Elodie Arbogast from Central Arizona but currently residing in Southern California. You can connect with Elodie on Tumblr, TwitterYouTube, and Instagram. She also has an art blog on Tumblr where you can view her X-Files artwork.

Here's a little about Eldoie:

1. When did you become an X-Phile?

Actually very recently. I'm not sure the exact day I started watching, but It was last semester, so around August or September. I'm only a few episodes away from finishing the series as I write this. I wasn't even born yet when the first episode aired. I actually looked it up, and I was born around the Emily arc. So this is all very new to me.

2. What is the first episode you watched?

The pilot! No one had shown me a thing about The X-Files before I decided to get into it myself. All I knew was that my cousin watched it, and it was all over Tumblr for some reason.

3. What are you looking forward to seeing in the revival?

More of Mulder and Scully. I'm sure that's not a very surprising answer. But I've always been particularly invested in long running shows (and other media) where you can watch the characters grow up. Not just in a bildungsroman type way, but actually watching them grow. Other examples would be Buffy and Harry Potter. So looking at the pilot then looking back at the revival is really, immeasurably interesting for me. I can't wait to see an older Mulder and Scully, as opposed to the young FBI agents.

4. What inspired you to draw X-Files?

Ever since sixth grade I've drawn fanart of whatever it is I was most involved with at the time. As a matter of fact, I actually taught myself to draw for the express purpose of making fanart. I didn't know how else to communicate how much certain things meant to me. Since then I've drawn other things, but it's second nature to me to immediately draw fanart of my latest interest. So when The X-Files became the most important piece of media in my life, I started to draw it.

5. Who is your favorite character?

This is a tricky question, because I find that I relate to Mulder to kind of an absurd degree. So it's tempting to say him. But I think Scully is my favorite. She's so inspiring. It's hard to look at her and not want to be just like her. So I have to say she's my favorite.

6. List your top 5 episodes.

'Ice', 'War of the Coprophages', 'Quagmire', 'Post-Modern Prometheus', and 'Arcadia'.

7. Favorite X-Files quote.

I have to go with the classic "I want to believe". It holds so much meaning.

8. How has The X-Files impacted your life?

The X-Files made me think about the world around me differently. It made me think about who I am, and how me being who I am affects others. Everything is a ripple effect outwards. Thinking "I'm one person, I can't change anything" is wrong. I remember watching some episode that involved CSM and him trying to get Mulder to, essentially, stop being such a nuisance. While they were doing their protagonist-antagonist dance, I remember thinking that Mulder is basically just a roadblock. He isn't necessarily pushing back against these evil men, but he makes it really hard for them to do what they do. He makes it impossible for them to get their work done, until all they can focus on is getting him out of the way. He never gets out of the way. That's how he fights against evil. So maybe, just being alive and doing what you were put on earth to do is enough. Maybe you don't have to push back against everything evil in the world, maybe you just have to make it impossible for it to keep going. In that way, The X-Files is a very comforting show.

Thanks, Elodie! See you next Wednesday for a new artist!
