This morning Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny did a very successful Reddit AMA. For those unaware, Reddit is basically a giant message board. Smaller subreddits focus on specific topics; for instance, the IAmA subreddit hosts AMAs (Ask Me Anything threads) with people in unique circumstances. Then every post in every subreddit is upvoted or downvoted by users, and the most upvoted posts make it to the front page.
David and Gillian's AMA is still sitting at the top of the front page. Fans asked the pair about everything from their future career plans to random moments on The X-Files. If you want to read it all, here is the thread. If you don't want to dig through the entire thing though, you can also go to David's and Gillian's user pages to see all of their responses. Then click context to see what they responded to.
Either way, hit the jump for some of the best answers from this morning's AMA.
On XF3:
David: I think Chris is working on a script. Chris is shooting a pilot right now, so he might not be working on a script, but he claims to be working on a script, and if he does do that and Fox wants to make it... Gillian will do it, I will do it, so start your writing campaign now. Seriously. We'd all love to do it. The ball is in Fox's hands. And not Fox Mulder, Fox the studio.
We want to see Obama's picture in the office. We gotta hurry. We don't want to leave it off at the X-Bush. Or we'd love Hillary up there. Hillary and Mitch Pileggi as the Attorney General.
Favorite Episodes?
David: Gillian loves Bad Blood. I do like Post-Modern Prometheus, we all love Jose Chung, we love Small Potatoes, we love all the funny ones, we're easy that way.
Gillian: And David loves everything he directed. THAT WAS A JOKE. Everything Chris directed. Triangle turned out so good.
Favorite drink while at a bar?
Gillian: Coca-Cola straight up.
David: Hmm. I like Tequila.
What's next for David after Californication?
I've got a movie that I want to direct and just looking at stuff, nothing planned at the moment.
Favorite MOTW?
David: My favorite would be Flukeman because Darin Morgan was in the suit, one of our great writers. And I had never met him, and I never did meet him, because he was in the suit and it took so much time in makeup. So when we did that show, I never actually saw Darin's face. A couple of months later I was on a flight from Vancouver to LA and a guy sat next to me and started asking me a bunch of inane questions. I thought "Oh my god, I have 3 hours to sit next to this guy." And I was despairing. ANd then he handed me a book and said "will you sign it to my nemesis?" and I said "what do you mean" and he said "I'm Darin Morgan, I'm Flukeman."
Gillian: My favorite Monster of the week used to be, well I would normally answer that it would be Tooms. But on the first episode that we shot, Tooms 1, It was my birthday when we were shooting it. I turned 25. And Doug offered me a birthday present. To come to my hotel room. And I did not take him up on it. And I'm very grateful now that I did not take him up on it.
David: He offered me the same thing, and it wasn't even my birthday.
Who has a better chance of surviving a zobie/alien apocalypse?
Gillian: David, definitely. No, you would. I just saw World War Z. You'd win, I'd die in a second.
David: You'd have to take off your heels to run. Can your little legs reach the pedals?
Did Queequeg deserve better?
David: Yes.
Gillian: No. That dog killed people with its farts and it deserved to die a nasty death in the mouth of that alligator or whatever it was. Ugh. I had to shampoo it, or walk away every few seconds, because these puffs of nastiness kept happening.
David: "Puffs of Nastiness" should be your band name.
If they switched bodies for a week, what would they do?
Gillian: I would masturbate in a red speedo.
David: I don't know? I'd put on a nice dress and some tasteful heels and take it from there.
Top three music albums?
Gillian: I still really like Jeff Buckley's Grace album. Fleetwood Mac's Rumors. I don't know which Radiohead album is my favorite, probably OK Computer.
David: Umm, let's say. The White Album by the Beatles. I like Stevie Wonder's Songs In the Key Of Life. Who's Next by the Who
Have their kids watched The X-Files, and what do they think of it?
David: My son has watched a couple a few years ago, and it scared him. They don't generally like to watch, they're not fans, it's weird for them to watch their parents. He does like to play the X-files Pinball machine.
Gillian: My daughter asked me if she could borrow some DVDs and I dug them out, and then she asked me which ones she should watch, I think we watched a few of them together a few years ago. It occurred to me that there will be a point when my boys will find out about the show, they are 7 and 5, and it will be so much fun to share it with them.
Creeped out by fanfiction?
David: I was vaguely aware of it. Nick Lea showed me some. And it was interesting.
Gillian: I've only found out that existed in literally the last year, that I needed to look it up and then someone else said "don't" so I am still in the dark.
Are they aware of the Mulder/Scully intersection in Canada?
David: No! That's the only time Mulder and Scully officially intersected!
Gillian: No, William...
