Chris Carter has been hinting about a project in the works with AMC, and now The Hollywood Reporter has the first details. The series, Area 51, is based off of the book of the same name by Annie Jacobsen.
The project is now officially in development. It is described as "A contemporary conspiracy thriller revealing the true story behind the infamous Area 51, America's most mysterious military installation".
We're sure that Fox Mulder will be turning in. Until then though, we'll keep you updated on the latest details as they emerge.

Execitive producer of "The X-Files" and "Homeland", Howard Gordon, has a new drama coming to TNT in August. "Legends" from Howard Gordon and Alexander Cary, and "Fringe" co-executive producer, David Wilcox, is set to premiere Wednesday, August 20th, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on TNT.
"Legends" stars Sean Bean from "Game of Thrones" as a deep-undercover FBI agent who may be losing his grip on reality and is based on the novel by Robert Littell.
