This year's Emmy nominations rolled in this morning, and the news is very good for several X-Files alumni. Vince Gilligan's Breaking Bad scored a whopping thirteen nominations, and Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa's Homeland landed nine. Also reigning them in is James Wong's American Horror Story with seventeen nominations, tied with Mad Men for this year's highest total.
Breaking Bad saw five of its actors nominated, and a nomination for Vince Gilligan himself in the directing category. The show was also recognized in the cinematography, editing, sound editing, sound mixing, and visual effects categories. The series will also compete against Homeland for Outstanding Drama Series. Homeland, too, was recognized for acting, directing, editing, and sound mixing, in addition to picking up nominations for writing, casting, and theme music.
American Horror Story will be competing in the Outstanding Miniseries or Movie category. It also picked up four acting nominations, as well as nominations for art direction, casting, costumes, editing, and seven others. The full details on all nominations can be found here.
The 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will air on ABC on September 23rd, so that should leave you plenty of time to make your guesses as to who you think will win. Though if you haven't seen these shows and can't decide, perhaps this is your chance to catch up.
