marianne L

We are back with FanArt Wednesdays! This week’s chosen artist is Marianne L, from Ithaca, NY. You can connect with Marianne on Tumblr to find all of her sketches.

Here's a little about Marianne:

1. When did you become an X-Phile?

So The X-Files actually came out the year I was born, and I remember my parents watching some of the later seasons when I was older.  I was terrified of aliens, though, so I didn't really start watching it until high school (but only when I caught it on television).  I really got into it about three years ago, when I got a Netflix account and finally watched the whole thing.

2. What is the first episode you watched?

The pilot episode. I started right at the beginning.

3. What are you looking forward to seeing in the revival?

I think what I want more than anything in the revival is to see the same dynamics from the original series, as well as the same character depth that made me love the show so much in the first place.

4. What inspired you to draw X-Files?

I wanted to have something to serve as a little tribute to my very favorite series, and since I draw so much anyway, I figured that would be a good way to show my love for it.

5. Who is your favorite character?

Tough question, but I'd say Mulder. I adore Scully, just in a completely different way. And as someone pursuing a career in the sciences, she's a huge inspiration. Mulder just makes me smile more, so I think that's why I'm slightly more fond of him.

6. List your top 5 episodes.

Oh man, this is a hard one. Let's see. "Bad Blood", "The Unnatural", "Memento Mori", "Pilot", and "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose" are the ones I can think of off the top of my head, in no special order.

7. Favorite X-Files quote.

I don't think there's a specific quote that comes to mind, but I love Scully's voiceover in "Memento Mori" because it's such a powerful scene.  And it says so much about Scully's character and how much she and Mulder have come to care for each other.

8. How has The X-Files impacted your life?

It was one of the first shows I really watched all the way through, and it's what introduced me to binge-watching on Netflix, haha. But in all seriousness, it set an incredibly high bar for what I look for in television shows, and it gave me a set of characters I never thought I would care so much about. I go back and rewatch my favorite episodes constantly and I never get tired of it. I love having that, because I know it will never stop making me happy.

Thanks, Marianne! Come back next Wednesday for a new artist!
