Jessica Lazar

It's FanArt Wednesday again! This week’s chosen artist is Jessica Lazar from Vancouver, Canada. You can connect with Jessica on Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram.

Here's a little about Jessica:

1. When did you become an X-Phile?

I instantly became an X-Phile when I first started watching the show. Unlike everybody else, I was late to the party, and watched the pilot on Netflix around April 2015.

2. What is the first episode you watched?

I started from the beginning with the pilot. Not only did I like the plot line, but it was also really fun to see and recognize the filming locations.

3. What was your favorite part of the revival?

My favourite part of the revival has got to be either the scenes in 'Founder’s Mutation' where it showed Mulder and Scully with William, or the scene in 'Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster', where Mulder is explaining his theory out loud, but is replying to himself as Scully, and all the way at the end Scully calls him “bat-crap crazy”.

4. What inspired you to create X-Files fanart?

Well...I tried holding off doing fanart of The X-Files for a month or so after watching the pilot, cause I knew that if I started, I would get more obsessed with the show than I already was. Also, the characters really helped with thinking of new drawing ideas, since their relationship is so unique.

5. Who is your favorite character?

Every character, no matter how annoying they are, is important to the show, so it’s really hard to choose. If I had to pick just one, I think it would be Scully.

6. List your top 5 episodes.

Well…I still haven’t finished watching the classic series, so from what I’ve seen so far, they are (in no particular order): 'Ice', 'Never Again', 'Detour', 'Bad Blood', 'Dreamland' (parts 1 and 2).

7. Favorite X-Files quote.

Ok, so I’m gonna pick a quote from both the classic series and the revival.

Classic: “Ascending…ascending to the stars.” - Duane Barry

Revival: “You see, now I possess the one Darwinian advantage that humans have over other animals; the ability to BS my way through anything!” - Guy Mann

8. How has The X-Files impacted your life?

I feel like The X-Files has impacted my life in such a big way that I can’t even pinpoint what changed. I never stop talking about it, which probably causes the people around me to tune me out. It taught me to keep an open mind to other people’s ideas. The show also provided a strong female character to look up to. I find that a lot of shows nowadays don’t really have that.

Thanks, Jessica! See you next Wednesday for a new artist!
