At the TCA’s today, FOX again says talks about the future of The X-Files are “going on” and that those conversations are “complex.” FOX entertainment president David Madden says “we hope to be able to announce something shortly.” No word on what their definition of “shortly” is….
You can read more from TVLine here.
However FOX TV CEO Gary Newman was a little more subdued while talking with IndieWire, saying “My expectation is we will not have something next season” and that while there is “no negativity” scheduling is difficult and we may not see new episodes until Fall 2018 or Winter 2019. Read more of Newman’s comments here.
Newman’s words contrast a bit with what Madden said to Entertainment Weekly: “After Fox’s executive session, Madden told us he wanted to have an announcement ready for today’s event, but the deal-making wasn’t quite done.” Read more here.
Both Entertainment Weekly and IndieWire say that FOX is looking for more episodes than Season 10′s six, but less than a traditional 22-episode season.
So whether it’s “shortly” or two years from now, the “when” on Season 11 continues to be that elusive truth that is out there.

FOX TV Chairman and CEO Gary Newman joined Variety’s “Remote Controlled” podcast to talk 24, Prison Break, and of course The X-Files. When asked “are we going to see them again?” about the future of the show, here’s what Newman had to say:
“Uh I really don’t know. They’re a complicated group over there at X-Files, remember trust no one and all that. I guess I am the eternal optimist and I think we’ll actually get there. But I really couldn’t tell you what the timing is likely to be.”
Newman went on to cite the busy schedules of both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, and scheduling conflicts as “impediments” to getting another season organized but also that he believes it “probably will” come together.
You can listen to the entire podcast from Variety here.
