The Television Critics Association is in town... in Los Angeles - California, that is. If you're unfamiliar with this event, this is a group of sessions in which the studios present to the general press and critics what's coming up for their key shows and new programs to be released in the upcoming months. Naturally, FOX was one of the most anticipated presentations and with it the chatter about the possibility of a new season for The X-Files.
And there was some information about it, sorta.
This is the take-away from everything that was said about the return of the show:
- There's an intention to bring back the show for more than six episodes; eight to ten of them would be ideal.
- The main obstacle in having certainty of when the show could enter active production is strategizing around Chris Carter's and the actors' schedules, but conversations are being held about it.
- Dana Walden and David Madden - FOX CEO and Fox Entertainment President, respectively - are of the opinion that the revival of the show was well received by social media and fans, but had the caveat of having to reintroduce the show to new audiences. With Season 10 having done it's job at catching up the audience with the story, Season 11 would allow for an expasion of the stories. They would definitely follow the cue from chris Carter and the writers involved since they felt the episodes produced represented their vision.
Having been through last year's experience, strategizing is key for the success of this endeavor... and this is something that Chris Carter even said so himself when we spoke to him earlier this year. We think that's one of the things that will definitely be on everyone's list; to have enough amount of time and resources to develop the vision that everyone involved has for the show. This would maybe even allow to bring in more key players to the game, such as Rob Bowman, Vince Gilligan and Frank Spotnitz, that couldn't join the project because of other engagements. Given that there's time to plan ahead, it would be great to have this as a possibility.
X-Philes, what do you think? Do you agree with the reception of the episodes? Do you want more? Who do you want back? How many episodes? ...And, do you think that Season 11 should be a stepping stone to new seasons or should this be the wrap up of the franchise?
Interesting points to think about.
We'll bring you more information as it develops.

In just a few months, one of the newest X-Files releases will hit the shelves. The X-Files: Origins, both from IDW and McMillan, will bring a look into the early years of Mulder and Scully. While you may have enjoyed our interview with Denton Tipton about the IDW version of this new property, we also had the opportunity to talk to Jonathan Maberry about his part on this release at San Diego Comic-Con 2016.
Enjoy our conversation with him about "Devil's Advocate" and stay tuned for our podcast with Kami Garcia about the other half of this release - "Agent of Chaos."

It's been approximately 3 months, 3 weeks, 2 days, 21 hours and 40 minutes since The X-Files Season 10 ended on FOX. But who's counting, right? Since then, Philes have been clamoring for the answer of the biggest truth still out there, when will we get more Mulder and Scully? David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson spoke with Deadline about what it was like to return to the characters after so many years, that ever-present chemistry, and the possibility of doing more episodes.
We heard at the FOX upfronts that the network hopes to do more, but what about the stars? Gillian Anderson says:
"For me, it was important that I thought of this season as being just these six shows when we were doing it. The long insanity of the schedule [demanded it]. I’m open to the conversation, though they haven’t come to us yet. I have no clue when they’re going to. I’m getting on with the rest of my life and I’m booking other jobs, so if it is indeed something that they would like to continue, then that conversation will need to be had. And I have no idea when that will be able to take place at this juncture."
When asked if Season 10 had increased his desire to do more episodes this is what David Duchovny had to say:
"I don’t know… I’m pausing, and I don’t know why I’m pausing. I would say, I guess what we found with this season was that it’s possible to still get it. It doesn’t not work. And then the question becomes, if we were going to move on, how do we make it work even better? That’s a question we’d want to ask. This one was, “Phew, we can do it. I guess it did work.” But now it’s like, now what? How do we make this interesting again for all of us? And it is a joy to play, as difficult as it can be. There are days, I’m sure, where Gillian and I would rather go to work and not have to think about it, but ultimately that’s what keeps us alive; these people, those artists, and the chance to be able to use our brains and think on our feet to do the show in that way."
Gillian also chimed in that:
"David and I have solidified and intensified our friendship and our working relationship since the series ended, so it really is just going back and choosing to work with somebody, and feeling like we are doing something that only the two of us have the experience of. We’re there for each other, and enjoy that in and of itself. It was something I looked forward to with this series, and something I would potentially look forward to doing again. It’s a nice thing to have in one’s life."
We know creator Chris Carter is on board for more. In a recent interview with Den of Geek he said:
"Yes, I’ve already got the call from FOX saying they want more episodes. I think now it’s just a matter of figuring out when we can all co-ordinate our schedules to do it. So yes, I think absolutely you’re going to see more, and of course, that means you’re going to see how we get ourselves out of that very steep, sharp cliff!"
The uncertainty of when continues, but as always, "Don't Give Up." You can read the full article from Deadline here.

CBS has announced their newest production. Ransom has been ordered straight to series, with 13 episodes telling a suspense story inspired by the professional experiences of crisis negotiator Laurent Combalbert and his partner, Marwan Mery, who are among the top negotiators in the world. Frank Spotnitz is the Executive Producer behind the series, a co-production of his company Big Light Productions alongside eOne, TF1, Wildcats, and Corus Global. For the sake of fiction, Combalbert's character has been named Eric Beaumont and will be portrayed by Luke Roberts (Black Sails). Here's the official description of the show:
"Beaumont's team is brought in to save lives when no one else can. Eric understands criminals better than they do, and uses his insight into human behavior to resolve the most difficult kidnap and ransom cases. Despite the stakes, Eric refuses to resort to violence, even when confronted by some of the most dangerous criminals in the world. While Eric’s considerable powers of manipulation make him the best at what he does professionally, they often complicate his relationships with family, friends and colleagues. Is Eric being himself, or who he needs to be in order to get what he wants? The difference is often hard to tell. The series begins with Eric taking on Maxine Carlson, a new member of the team eager to prove herself. But a dangerous secret from Maxine's past may pose a threat that even the great Eric Beaumont is unable to resolve."
The show is slated to be part of the 2016-2017 season, though a premiere date hasn't been announced. Stay tuned for more updates.
